PMT Calibration in the XENON 1T Demonstrator
نویسنده
چکیده
XENON Dark Matter Project searches for the dark matter candidate, the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMPs). All XENON experiments use a time projection chamber (TPC) to detect nuclear recoils resulting from WIMP-nuclei scattering. Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) read out the signal from the scintillation and ionization of the xenon triggered by the nuclear recoils. This paper details PMT gain measurements and equalization for the XENON 1T Demonstrator.

XENON 1T Demonstrator Report
Observation suggests ∼80% of all the mass of the universe currently comes from a nonluminous, nonbaryonic form of matter known as dark matter. Currently, WIMPs are one of the most favored models to explain the missing mass of the universe. XENON100, a detector experiment in Gran Sasso, has place the best upper limits for the cross section at ∼ 10−44cm2 for a 50GeV/c mass WIMP. Since detection o...
متن کاملDark Matter Detection and PMT Base Optimization
The purpose of the research presented in this paper is to help characterize and improve the photomultiplier tubes which go inside the Xenon dark matter detector. This paper discusses Dark Matter, the Xenon experiment, and the main project. The main project presented in this paper is the optimization of a parameter of photomultiplier tubes called linearity. Linearity means that the input and out...
متن کاملDark Matter Detection Characterization of Photomultiplier Tubes for Dark Matter Experiments
Dark matter has become a major topic of research as the attempt to described the gravitatioinal interactions between some unknown substance and the stars that make up the galaxacy has been approached. Photomultiplier tubes are used in the observation of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) in dark matter detection experiments, such as the Xenon 10 and Xenon 100 experiments conducted at ...
متن کاملPreliminary Experiments with a Triple-layer Phoswich Detector for Radioxenon Detection
The International Monitoring System (IMS) employs some special radiation detectors to monitor atmospheric or underground nuclear weapons tests around the world. These detectors should be able to detect ultra low concentrations of xenon radioisotopes in the atmosphere where the background level is relatively high. Exploiting the fact that the most interesting xenon radioisotopes (Xe, Xe, Xe, and...
متن کاملDigital Pulse Shape Analysis with Phoswich Detectors to Simplify Coincidence Measurements of Radioactive Xenon
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty establishes a network of monitoring stations to detect radioactive xenon in the atmosphere from nuclear weapons testing. One such monitoring system is the Automated Radioxenon Sampler/Analyzer (ARSA) developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which uses a complex arrangement of separate beta and gamma detectors to detect beta-gamma coincidences...
